On March 23, Elmer Sorrell, 52, High Ridge, was transferred from a medical facility to the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail on a Daviess County warrant for felony assault, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing firearm/explosives and resisting arrest for a felony warrant.
Sorrell allegedly fired several shots at a Highway Patrol trooper on March 19, during a pursuit which originated in Harrison County and ended near the intersection of Route N and US 69 in Daviess County. Sorrell and a passenger, Lisa Ann Legge of Washington, MO, had stolen a compound bow from a residence in Ridgeway and were being pursued by the trooper on southbound I-35. When Sorrell exited I-35 on Route N, his vehicle slid through the intersection and into a ditch. Sorrell and Legge fled on foot with the trooper in pursuit. When Sorrell shot at the trooper, the trooper returned fire, striking Sorrell, who was later hospitalized. Bond for Sorrell is set at $100,000, cash only.
