Kyle James Kidwell of Greenwood was charged March 19 in Daviess County with tampering with motor vehicle first degree, D felony, resisting arrest and driving while revoked, E felonies, and misdemeanors of property damage, speeding, careless and imprudent, and failure to drive on right half of road, in connection with an incident which occurred on Jan. 29.
He was charged Jan. 30 in Clinton County with tampering with motor vehicle, resisting arrest and driving while revoked.
According to the probable cause statement, Trooper V. McBride attempted to make a traffic stop on northbound I-35 in Clinton County on a silver Nissan Altima which was not displaying a front license plate. When the trooper activated his emergency equipment, the Nissan accelerated to approximately 112 miles per hour and failed to yield. A computer check indicated that the vehicle was listed as stolen from Jackson County.
The vehicle continued north, incurring several lane violations, then entered into DeKalb County and Daviess County before taking exit 61 and turning east toward Winston. The vehicle came to a stop on a city road in Winston, and Kidwell exited the vehicle, crawled across the hood of his car, struck the patrol car with his foot, then fled southeast.
He fled into a house in Winston and hid. He was located in the basement of the house, under a cabinet. Bond has been set at $35,000.
