The Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail Board decided to update the institutional radios, changing the frequency from UHF to VHF to allow communication with law enforcement agencies and transport vehicles. The board meeting was held Feb. 27.
In other board business, it was noted that the first van purchased from North Carolina is scheduled to arrive the first week of March. The other three vans will follow, arriving about one every week.
Around 137 inmates were being held at the jail.
The security cameras are now fully operational.
Ballistic vests for transport officers have been ordered through Safariland with an estimated delivery of 12 weeks.
The recent auction of vehicles and miscellaneous items grossed $4,125. The jail has not received a final total after expenses.
Deputy Director Tim Carder is still looking for locks for the exterior doors.
Basic training for the recent new hires is nearly complete. The jail has had participation by other agencies in the training. The Missouri Sheriffs’ Association will be hosting training at the jail facility in the near future.
In April the jail will begin recertification of staff, and by the end of the year, all staff will have approximately 20 hours of training completed.
Director Ed Howard requested that both he and Deputy Director Carder attend the annual Jail Administrator Conference on May 14, 2018. The board carried a motion to allow Mr. Howard and Mr. Carder to attend.
Mr. Carder gave the financial report, which was accepted by the board: Sales tax revenue for January 2018, $88,641.82; Commissary grossed $8,275.58 in February 2018; CD Account 247 balance $241,719.18; Accrued interest in CD 977 $859.08 and CD account 977 balance $101,697.13; Sales Tax Account balance is $461,079.85; Operating Account balance is $1,059.44; A/R $275,658.68; A/P $30,604.22; Payroll Account balance is $1,734.25.
The board entered into closed session to consider legal actions, causes of action or litigation involving a public governmental body and any confidential or privileged communications between a public governmental body or its representatives and its attorneys.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2018.
