The FBLA CLUE Team, with the support and assistance of sixth grade teacher Mrs. Bond and Middle School Principal Mrs. Otto, led a sixth grade homeroom group in an investigation.
The investigation for CLUE stood for: C – Career Information and Education, L- Long Term Goals and Values, U – Utilize Interests and Abilities, and E – Entering the Job Market.
The FBLA American Enterprise Project is used to promote some facet of the American Enterprise system within the school and/or community. The American Enterprise Team, CLUE, sought information and education to promote the steps needed to secure a career.
The first step is getting informed and educated. The team thought that knowing how to choose a career that met one’s goals and needs would lead individuals to success. Who better to start with, but those students getting ready to select classes for possible further education into a career — sixth graders?
Basic skills of knowing how to access these choices and take it to another level to enter the job market were all developed and covered in interactive learning activities.
Through pretesting activities with the sixth graders, FBLA members constructed activities for the students to investigate their likes, interests, goals, values, and needs.
The students also completed career assessments and investigated job pathways through activities with hats donated by the local Gallatin MFA. Sixth graders were encouraged to put on their thinking caps and discover interests, hobbies, and skills they possessed.
The final steps of CLUE were to administer a post test on the definitions that were related to jobs and careers and fill out a real job application. Fifteen students completed the successful steps to get a CLUE! Students were excited to have new career ideas in mind from the variety of activities.
The American Enterprise Team, led by Gallatin FBLA Adviser Barbara Holcomb, will compete at the State Leadership Conference this April in Springfield.
