Dean Cordell Earnest, 85, Gilman City, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at his home in Gilman City.

He was born May 18, 1932, in Oakland, Iowa, the son of Solomon and Ina Mae (Dethlefs) Earnest. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Harvey Kaus; and brothers, Max and Jack Earnest.

Dean served in the United States Air Force. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Auburn and worked as an engineer. During his retirement, he worked at several antique shops. Dean loved collecting antiques and enjoyed nature. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Auburn Tigers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He is survived by his sons, Kevin Earnest, Springfield, Va., and Chriss (Yumiko) Earnest, Chiba, Japan; daughter, Stacey (Jim) Hasler, Watkinsville, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Sydney and Jessica.

Graveside services and burial with military rites were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Oaklawn Cemetery, Oakland, Iowa, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. There was no scheduled family visitation. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.
