Gallatin’s girls gave all they had Tuesday night against one of the best teams in northwest Missouri, but it wasn’t enough as Trenton pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 58-43 win that ended the red and black Bulldogs’ four-game winning streak.

Gallatin looks to get back on the winning track tonight (Wednesday) at the NCMC Holiday Hoops, when they take an 8-2 record into a 7 p.m. meeting with Green City.

Gallatin tried several lineup variations in Tuesday’s first half, looking for answers offensively and defensively, but couldn’t stave off an 11-2 Trenton run that ended with a 31-18 lead for the visitors. Cora Stout opened the third quarter with an 8-foot bucket and followed up with a putback off a weak-side rebound. Hayley Michael drove the lane for a layup to close the gap to 31-24 but Mykah Hurley responded with one of Trenton’s eight three-pointers to push the THS lead back to 10 points.

Gallatin would not go away. Kelsey Maxwell converted a traditional three-point play, field goal and free throw. Michael nailed a trey from the corner to make it a six-point game, but Trenton produced a pair of three-point plays to stake out a 42-32 lead at the end of the third.

Three-pointers by Karley Salmon and Michael gave Gallatin hope to start the final period, but Trenton answered with a 3-ball from Ainsley Tolson. Shubert nailed a turn around shot in the lane that hailed a final GHS effort to close the gap. Trenton, with an 11-2 surge, put the game out of reach.

Shubert led stair-step scoring for Gallatin with 10 points. Maxwell finished with nine, followed by Michael with eight, Stout with seven and Salmon with six.

Friday night’s game for the Lady Bulldogs was a grinder. Gallatin never trailed but the Lady Bulldogs didn’t build a comfortable lead until the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs led by six after the first period and stretched their advantage to 32-23 at the break. A Megan Cox two-point bucket at the 5:59 mark of the third quarter put her team up by double digits for the first time. The Lady Bulldogs led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter thanks to Kelsey Maxwell’s two-pointer and pair of free throws.

Karley Salmon paced Gallatin with 17 points, thanks in part to 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line. Stout finished with 12 points. Maxwell totaled 11 points by nailing all four field goal attempts and all three free throw tries. Hayley Michael led the Lady Bulldogs with six assists.

Gallatin’s girls are the #3 seed in the Lawson Tournament, which will open Jan. 8. The Lady Bulldogs will face #6 West Platte at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8.
