Funeral services for Janet Selby were held Nov. 29 at McWilliams Funeral Home, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Contributions may be made to the Daviess County Library in her memory.

Janet E. Selby, 95, Gallatin, died Nov. 25, 2017, at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab, Gallatin.

Ms. Selby was born July 7, 1922, to Seth Erickson and Gladys Brown Selby at the family home in Gallatin, weighing one and one half pounds.

She graduated from Gallatin High School and Stephens College in Columbia. She attended Chicago Business College and worked briefly in Springfield for International Harvester Co. She spent the rest of her life in Gallatin, returning home to work for Inter-County Telephone and later, for Joe, Hubert, and Steve Tate as bookkeeper at the Gallatin Motor Company. Upon retirement in 1981 after 30 years, she worked for Phil Tate at Tate Oil Company.

She was a lifelong member of Gallatin Presbyterian Church where she served as treasurer, and was a past member of P.E.O. Gallatin Chapter.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, maternal grandparents Elias and Laura (Parnell) Brown, paternal grandparents J. Allen and Mary E. Selby.

Survivors include cousins, Phil (Nancy) Tate family of Gallatin, Pam Tate Palmer (Kent) family of Glendale, Ariz., Judith Tate Mori (Ramsay) family of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and the late Steve Tate (Judy) family.
