The salary commission meets biennially to establish compensation for county officers to be paid during the next term of office for officers affected.

Vicki Corwin reported $1,415,357.13 in the general fund. The total assessed valuation for Daviess County for 2017 is $135,304,263. It was explained that the valuation has increased to the next level of base salary in regards to compensation for the elected officials, but based on previous motions, all salaries were above the base at 115%. In addition there was also a 2% cost of living adjustment as approved by the commissioners in 2016.

There was discussion regarding keeping the last base salary and staying at 115% of the maximum allowable compensation for all office holders, which was decided in motions previously in 2011, 2013, and 2015.

The salary commission then unanimously approved a motion which sets county officers’ salaries at 115% of the maximum allowable compensation, plus the 2% cost-of-living allowance approved by commissioners in 2016; plus an allowable cost-of-living allowance equal to the same percentage awarded to county employees, if any, computed on the total salary, disregarding any cost-of-living allowances given prior to 2017, and added to the previous year’s salary. Randy Sims abstained from the vote.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Those in attendance were Randy Sims, presiding commissioner; Sally Black, assessor; David Cox, associate commissioner; Wayne Uthe, associate commissioner; Pam McNeel, treasurer/collector; Vicki Corwin, county clerk; Annie Gibson, prosecuting attorney; Jane McKinsey, recorder of deeds; Ben Becerra, sheriff; and Kayla Michael, public administrator.
