Fred K. Burns Jr. 89 of Chillicothe passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Hedrick Medical Center.  Services will be held at 11AM Tuesday, October 24 at the Lake Viking Church near Gallatin.  Visitation is 1-hour prior to the service at the Church. Friends may call after 12 noon Monday at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.  Burial will be at the Lake Viking Cemetery.  Memorials contributions may be made to the Lake Viking Church or Chillicothe Senior Citizens Center in care of McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.

Fred was born March 29, 1928 the son of Fred Oliver and Mayme (Hillyard) Burns in Coffey, MO.  He was united in marriage to Helen Clark October 8, 1948 in Bethany, MO, to this union 5 children were born. Fred was a truck driver for most of his life driving for various companies in the area, retiring in 1981.  His attention to detail and knowledge of the business made him a perfect fit for the job.  Fred and Helen lived in Gallatin for several years before moving to Chillicothe, where they became part of the community.  Fred was a member of the Lake Viking Church and was instrumental in the establishment of the Church; he was a man of faith and lived his life according.  He enjoyed his daily visits to the Chillicothe Senior Center; Fred made lasting relationships wherever he went.  He adored his family and spending time with them was always special.  His legacy of hard work, treating people as he wished to be treated and compassion of family and friends will live on in the hearts and mind of those who knew and loved him.  Fred was an inspiration and will be greatly missed.

 

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen M. Burns, 3 brothers, Darwin Seymour, Robert and Charles Burns, sister, Ester Faye Moore and his granddaughter, Cherub Burns.

 

Fred is survived by his sons, Kenny Burns of Hamilton, and Ernest (Terry) Burns of Braymer, daughters Mardilla (Robert) Moore of Utica, Ethel (Larry) Head of Brookfield, Renee (Dan) Hopper of Potosi, brother, Marvin (Becky) Burns of Laredo, sisters, Loree Carlton of Raymore, Virginia Embree of Grandview, Betty Wright of TX, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren.
