John Tarwater, Gallatin, was one of 54 veterans on the Oct. 5, 2017, Honor Flight to Washington D.C. John was accompanied by a guardian, his son, Barry Tarwater.
The veterans met at Kansas City International airport in the early morning for their flight to Arlington, Va. Their first stop was the WWII Memorial and then the Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After the Changing of the Guard, a wreath from the veterans was laid and taps were played.
Next were the Korean, Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials on the National Mall. The Air Force Memorial was next, and that was followed by a bus tour of the White House and Pentagon.
