Lady Bulldog pitcher Karley Salmon gave up six hits in two games, allowed no runs and got all the offensive support she needed, and then some, as Gallatin easily swept through the Class 1, District 12 softball tournament to advance to today’s (Wednesday) sectional at Canton against the host team.
Canton, 16-5, defeated Scotland County, 6-2, to earn the District 11 title on Monday. Three of the Lady Tigers’ losses have come to Monroe City. Gallatin, 10-14, is one of nine teams in Class 1 that return to the final 16 bracket.
Top-seeded Gallatin blasted #5 Green City, 15-0, on Thursday, using a 12-run second inning to put the game out of reach early. GHS hitting stars were many as the Lady Bulldogs drove the ball hard for four extra base hits, including Essie Williamson’s first home run of the season.
Gallatin’s offensive barrage over three innings included: Aubrey Feiden, 2-for-2 with two walks, an rbi and run scored; Caragan Baker, one run and one rbi; Courtney Shubert, double, run and two rbi; Salmon, 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an rbi; Addison Burns, double, two runs and an rbi; Maelea Coulson, single, run scored and two rbi; Williamson, homer, two runs and two rbi; and Hayley Michael, 2-for-2 with two runs and an rbi.
Salmon allowed three hits while fanning three batters.
Lady Bulldog bats took up where they left off on Friday, with a six-run second inning and four-run fourth that brought the game to a halt after five innings.
Gallatin needed only six timely hits, three walks and four opposing errors to subdue Linn County, 11-0, in the district championship game. Feiden led the hit parade with two singles, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Baker and Shubert each drove in a pair of runs with hits. Salmon and Burns each hit safely and drove in runs. Baker, Salmon, Burns, Coulson, Williamson and Hayley Michael all scored. Jerilynn Hoover and Maddison Michael both scored as courtesy runners.
Salmon struck out nine, did not walk a batter and scattered three hits across five innings.
Gallatin landed five players on the Class 1, All-District 12 honor squad. Salmon, pitcher, and Kelsey Maxwell, catcher, were the top pitcher/catcher battery from the tourney. Baker was named one of six infielders on the honor squad. Feiden and Courtney Shubert made up two-thirds of the outfield honorees.
