The Dixon family would like to share the joy of celebrating the 95th birthday of their family matriarch. Helen Dixon was born Sept. 19, 1922, to Wiley A. and Lena (Bogan) James. She began dating her future husband, Jr. (Joe H.) Dixon, by the time they graduated from high school. After graduating from high school, Helen attended the Chillicothe Business College.

Helen and Jr. continued to date when Jr. decided to enlist in the US Navy early in WWII. While Jr. was serving during the war, Helen worked at the Kaiser Shipyards in Portland, Ore., on Swan Island, as a welder, building Liberty ships with her lifelong girlfriends, Dot and Kaye.

After the war, Helen married her life partner, Jr. Dixon, on Aug. 22, 1946. She and Jr. raised four sons together and lived and farmed in Daviess County for their entire married life until moving to the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in February of 2014. Helen lost her Jr. when he passed away in June 2015. Helen continues her residency at the nursing home.

The family notes that Helen remains jolly, friendly and as sweet as she always has been, even though she has had some health issues earlier this past June. The family asks you to shower Helen with your love and memories with a note or card.
