Dave was born January 13, 1953 the son of Melvin and Joy (Harman) Ness in Pueblo, CO. He graduated from King City MO High School and enlisted into the United States Air Force; it was there he gained his education, skills, and experience working on and operating heavy construction equipment; he proudly served his country for 4 years. Dave was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Mary Smith in Kentucky. He began his working career driving an 18-wheeler for a short time, and was later employed in the heavy equipment industry where he was an operator and mechanic for various construction companies, which took him all over Colorado and Wyoming.
