The Winston Board of Trustees adopted the 2017 property tax rate at the state authorized maximum of .4978 for the General Fund, and .3071 for the Street Fund during their meeting held Aug. 7.

The income and expense report and the year-to-date report were approved and bills paid.

The utilities clerk distributed a new list of delinquent customers, including four due for shutoff. The clerk was informed of two people moving out within the month.

Melvin McFee reported everything was working properly as far as sewer maintenance and there were no new problems.

Tracy Filley, street maintenance, stated a car needed to be moved in order to properly grade the streets. The owners will be asked to move the car first, and if nothing is done, then the clerk will send a letter. Mr. Filley also informed the board of a washout at Y Highway and 3rd Street. The clerk is to let MODOT know about the problem.

During Ordinance Enforcement, the board discussed two dogs seen in town that may have gotten out of the dog holding facility within the city limits.

The village clerk informed the board of a broken door handle at the Town Hall.

Emily Crow expressed her interest in the trustee position for the village. After board questions and discussion, the board decided to wait until the next meeting to vote on the appointment of a new trustee.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4.
