Wayne Knight, 92, of Gallatin passed away Thursday, July 27 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron. Graveside service will be held at 11am Monday, July 31 at Brown Cemetery near Gallatin. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron Veterans Home Assistance League in care of McWilliams Funeral Home 1329 W. Grand, Gallatin, MO.

Wayne was born February 16, 1925 the son of John Wesley and Eula Brooke (Mooney) Knight in Gallatin, MO. He attended Splawn Ridge County School for 1 year and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1942. After graduation Wayne enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve. He began his working career at the Knight Oil Company in Gallatin working side by side with his Dad delivering oil to the area farmers. Wayne worked on the tank wagon for many years before moving to Kansas City. He worked at several car dealerships in the area but retired from Freedom Chevrolet where he had dedicated many years of service. Wayne was always eager to help his customers. After retirement he moved back to Gallatin to care for his elderly mother and enjoyed being back home.
Wayne was a past Master of the Gallatin Masonic Lodge, and enjoyed the fellowship he shared with the members. He greatly enjoyed planting and working with flowers, he was very proud of his ability raising Voodoo Lilies. Wayne volunteered at the Daviess County Nursing Home where he would plant a variety of flowers in their garden and always had sunflowers for the residences to enjoy. He shared his time and talents and was always eager to go above and beyond to help. In his spare time he also liked to do woodworking. Wayne was a kind and gentle man to made lasting relationship wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Winnie Gatenby.
Wayne is survived by his sons, Mike Knight and wife Shelly of Olathe, KS, Scott Knight and wife Becky of Wichita, KS, Tim Knight of Overland Park, KS, daughters, Rita Brown and husband Steve and Janet Foland. Wayne has 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
