Foundation work on the new Winston R-6 School building was completed a few weeks ago, according to Superintendent Brian Robinson. The setting of the walls was completed last week except for two panels in the east end that allow machinery access to the inside of the structure. Interior structural steel will be installed next so the roof can be placed and concrete floors can be poured. Detailed finish work on the walls will take place over the next several weeks as well.
Pattonsburg is done (almost)
Herner Construction out of St. Joseph is doing the construction for the Pattonsburg R-2 school addition and began work on Nov. 1.
“We are officially done,” said Joseph Cobb, Project Manager for Herner. “Everything went as planned; we had a few hiccups here and there, but that happens with every project. For the most part, things went smoothly. It was a fun little addition for us.”
Superintendent Ireland said the majority was indeed done, but a few things still need fixed. There were draining issues, a retaining wall needed extended, a parking lot needs leveled out, and a few touch up items, like door locks, still need looked after.
The new building addition was approved by voters last April and includes pre-school, art and band classrooms, library/media center, office space, and other classrooms; installation of security and safety enhancements to building entrances; completion of HVAC and energy efficiency upgrades; renovations to the cafeteria; and, to the extent funds are available, completion of other renovations, remodeling and repair improvements to the existing facilities of the district.
