Circuit Court
Pursuant to a plea agreement, Emmett Campbell plead guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, class C felony and was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections. The case was heard by Judge Thomas Chapman on June 1.
Campbell was first charged with attempted rape first degree, an unclassified felony, in April 2015 in connection with an incident which occurred at his Jamesport residence involving a 14-year-old juvenile. Campbell later plead guilty to the lesser charge of sexual abuse first degree, but withdrew his guilty plea when he said that he was provided erroneous information regarding minimum parole eligibility for the crime. When his guilty plea was set aside, the original attempted rape charge was re-filed, and with the plea agreement was amended to the lesser charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Campbell was held in the Daviess-Dekalb County jail since the original charge on a bond of $250,000, cash only.
Campbell had been set for a jury trial on June 1, which was vacated.
