Athletic Director Barron Gann presided over the May 10 Gallatin High School Spring Sports Awards ceremony that honored participants in Scholar Bowl, track and field, golf and cheerleading.
Coach Nicole Ray-Curtis talked about the accomplishments of the GHS Scholar Bowl team. The team finished 4-3 over the course of a four-week season. Graydee Rains and Hayley Michael were second team and honorable mention, respectively, on the All-GRC Academic Team. McKay Marble and Maelea Coulson finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the district tournament.
Coulson received the Sportsmanship Award. Marble was awarded Most Improved Player. Rains finished as the team’s top scorer and MVP.
Also recognized on the Scholar Bowl team were Aubrey Burns, John Gibson, Connor Highsmith, Riley Holmes, Ethan Johnston, Abigail Marble, Jarod Rains, Meredith Riley and Briar Roll.
GHS assistant track coach Amy McNeely read a prepared presentation for Coach Patrick Treece, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to the pending birth of his first child.
Special track awards were given to Essie Williamson (Hustle), Addi Stanley (Golden Shoe), Tanner Johnson (Golden Pole) and Ayden Wayne (Golden Shoe). Johnson and Morgan Corwin were recognized as four-year track and field participants.
Other members of this year’s track squads were: Bethany Bailey, Jesse Becerra, Aubrey Burns, Maelea Coulson, Cindy Hacking, Jasmine Holcomb, Selma Kleinau, Katelinn Lowe, Jacklyn Maize, Macie McNeely, Aidan Adkison, Cody Arnold, Caleb Boyd, Landon Corwin, Jordan France, John Gibson, Gaven Gray, Thomas King, Briar Marriott, Dakota Martin, Cole McBee, Destin Miller, Brigham Steele, Corbin Toney, Graydee Rains, Michael Warner, and JJ Waters. Glenn Smit served as team manager. Courtenay Treece and John Bundy also assisted with the track program this season.
Coach Chad Sullenger reviewed the junior varsity and varsity golf seasons to date. The jayvee squad finished 6-1 in meets and won the GRC Tournament. The team finished with a 208.2 scoring average for the top four golfers over nine holes. Junior varsity team members were Colin Beck, Jaryd Brogan, Keaton Collins, Drayton Harris, Justice Fry, Hunter McCampbell, Jarod Rains, Owen Schweizer and Tayton Terry.
The varsity unit finished undefeated in meets and tournaments before finishing second in the Class 1 sectional event. Nine-hole scoring averages for the five varsity golfers were: Jett Simmons, 36.1; Logan Burns, 39.7, Wyatt Bird, 40.8; Gabe Cole, 42.6; and Hayden Bradford, 46.2.
In the special awards portion of the program, Bradford received the Newcomer of the Year award. Bird was named Most Improved. The Coach’s award went to Collins. Bird was also recognized as a four-year participant.
Gann concluded the program with the announcement of Academic All-Conference performers. To be eligible for academic all-conference, participants in spring sports must earn a letter and have carried at least a 3.5 grade point average during the fall semester.
Track athletes who made the Academic All-GRC list were Ayden Wayne, Aiden Adkison, Tanner Johnson, Michael Warner, Brigham Steele, Graydee Rains, John Gibson, Jordan France, Morgan Corwin, Caleb Boyd, Essie Williamson, Addi Stanley, Macie McNeely, Katelinn Lowe, Maelea Coulson, Aubrey Burns, Bethany Bailey and Selma Kleinau.
Golfers awarded academic all-conference were Tayton Terry, Jett Simmons, Jarod Rains, Drayton Haris, Keaton Collins, Justice Fry, Logan Burns, Colin Beck and Wyatt Bird.
Members of the Scholar Bowl team recognized as academic all-conference were Aubrey Burns, Maelea Coulson, John Gibson, Connor Highsmith, Riley Holmes, Hunter McCampbell, Abigail Marble, McKay Marble, Hayley Michael, Graydee Rains, Jarod Rains, Briar Roll and Brigham Steele.
GHS football and basketball cheerleaders were awarded certificates of excellence based upon the same criteria used to determine academic all-conference. Awardees were Annie Nelson, Essie Williamson, Addi Stanley, Sarabeth Michael, Addison Burns, Briar Roll, Kelli Lynch, Chloe Simmons and Megan Redman.
Three-sport athletes recognized for the 2016-17 school year were Macie McNeely, Drayton Harris, Haden Bradford, Aidan Adkison, Landon Corwin, Gaven Gray, Graydee Rains, Brigham Steele, Maelea Coulson, Caleb Boyd, Colin Beck and Wyatt Bird.
Recognized by the Missouri State High School Athletics Association with Award of Excellence for outstanding sportsmanship, ethics and integrity were Wyatt Bird and Sami Boyd.
