Charlene was born Aug. 12, 1942, the daughter of Willie W. and Beulah (Hall) Taylor near Pattonsburg, where she attended school. Charlene began her career working at several area nursing homes where she was a Certified Nurse’s Aid (CNA) and later became a Certified Medications Technician (CMT). She was united in marriage to Marvin Woods on Feb. 10, 1959. The couple purchased a farm near Winston where they milked cows and Charlene continued to work. When Marvin’s health began to fail they sold the farm and moved to Winston.
After Marvin passed away Charlene moved to St. Joseph for several years. In 2009 she moved to California, Mo., to be near her sisters.
Charlene attended the Baptist Church in St. Joseph. Her hobbies included crocheting afghans for her family; she loved to read; and when the opportunity came about she enjoyed fishing; watching the hummingbirds; and caring for her beloved cat, Mr. Kitty. She especially delighted in her grandchildren and was always interested in what they were doing and loved visits from them. When Charlene was able, she liked to get into her car and go to Wal-Mart and do her own shopping. Charlene was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Woods; sisters, Luevon Brown and Wilma Taylor; and great-granddaughter, Semya Kelly.
Charlene is survived by her daughters, Linda Ross and Janet Woods, both of Kansas City; sisters, Betty Rice and Frances (Jim) Langkop, both of California, Mo.; granddaughters, Susan Phelps, Kansas City, and Jessica Ross, Altamont; grandsons, Christopher Carlson and Nicole Williamson, Gallatin, Corbin Conely, Lexington, and Jordan Smith, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Gage Carlson, Iowa, and Gavin Greab, Gower; nieces, nephews and cousins.
