Funeral services for Roy Wallace were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Moline, Ill. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 28, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, Ill. 61201. Interment is at The Preemption Cemetery. LeRoy George Wallace, 68, Gallatin, formerly of Hamilton and Rock Island, Ill., died on April 23, 2017, at North Care Hospice, North Kansas City.
Roy was born on Aug. 26, 1948 in Moline to Ivan and Darlene (Potter) Wallace. He graduated from the Rock Island High School in 1966. He honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. Roy was a UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) helicopter pilot during his tour in Vietnam.
Roy had been a welder and worked with his uncle Vernon Wallace at United Welding for 17 years in Trenton before working and retiring in 2012 from I & M Machine Company in St. Joseph as a machinist.
He was a member of the Jesus House of Prayer Church in Breckenridge, and a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant child.
On Aug. 28, 1971, he married Velma Davis, in Moline. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his father, Ivan Wallace, Rock Island; children, Carrie McCarthy (Eric), Kansas City, Corey Wallace (Jackie), Hamilton, Mindy Baker (Marcus), Owosso, Mich., Casey Wallace (Kristen), Ozark, Matthew Wallace (Serena), Plano, Texas, LeAnne Sweet (James), Cameron, and Lyndi Wallace, Astoria, N.Y.; siblings, John Wallace (Jan), Silvis, Ill., Linda Vondergathen (Dave), Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Karl Wallace (Roxy), R.I.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
