Gary and Vanessa Mullins have opened a pool room on the east side of the Gallatin Square at 103 North Main Street. Moon Mullins Family Pool Hall will open its doors officially at 12 noon on Saturday, April 22. To celebrate their opening day, there will be free pool all day, along with raffles, a t-shirt giveaway, and door prizes.

The pool room will have seven pool tables, several different games, including a pinball machine, and will be decorated in a 1960s/70s retro theme. A juke box and video games will be added in the near future.

Moon Mullins will be smoke free. No alcoholic beverages will be served.

“We’re going to run a clean, family-oriented place,” said Gary. “It will be a place where high school aged kids can come in and have something to do.”

They will not serve food, only snacks and drinks.

“We’re located between the Corner Café and Subway and we plan to promote the local restaurants,” said Vanessa. “We’ll have their menus available here.”

Remodeling of the building is complete and the Mullins finished the painting and cleaning last week.

They have not set definite hours; it will depend on demand. They will be open on Saturdays. Check on their progress at facebook.com/moonmullins43.

“We got our business license and everyone at city hall has been very helpful,” said Gary. “In fact, the whole community has been great. Everybody seems really excited that we’re here.”

Pool tables will be rented by the hour at reasonable rates. Discounts will be available for students and seniors.

This summer, after school is out, free pool clinics will be offered on Saturday mornings. “The free pool clinic will be open to people of all ages,” said Gary.

The Mullins moved to Missouri 4 1/2 years ago from Michigan when Gary was transferred to the Ford plant at Claycomo. They looked for a place where they could start a business and eventually retire.  They chose Gallatin and have since moved here. Gary will continue to work at Ford, and Vanessa and other family members will run Moon Mullins.

Gary’s father owned pool halls when he was growing up. In fact, the name of the pool hall, Moon Mullins Family Pool Hall, is in honor of his father who opened his first pool hall by that same name in Ohio in 1974.

“Our overall goal is to have fun,” said Gary, who played professional pool for years. “I’ve played pool most of my life and I love the game. Young people don’t really play pool anymore because of videos. But it’s a great game and I think once they try it, they’ll love it.”
