The state of Missouri is facing a current shortage of sports officials; fewer individuals are entering the profession as more and more officials are retiring. As this need becomes greater, high schools, colleges and universities will soon face a shortage to cover their athletic events.

Beginning this fall of 2017, North Central Missouri College in Trenton will be offering a class to teach individuals the basics of officiating. PE112 Sports Officiating will be a two-credit hour class that will be offered in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. by Ketcham Community Center Director and MSHSAA certified official, Nate Gamet.

“This class is a great example of community colleges filling an immediate need,” Dr. Kristen Alley, Dean of Student Affairs, stated. “By providing it, we hope to serve a regional need for officials, as well as provide future, supplemental income for our students. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of providing this service.”
