Gallatin golfers flexed their muscles against larger schools last Wednesday with an eight-shot victory in the Cameron Invitational Tournament. The Bulldogs continued their trek through the 2017 golf season, clipping host Cameron, their next closet competitor, 321 to 329.
Junior Jett Simmons was where he has been all season long, at the head of the pack. Simmons shot 74 for the medalist honor, four strokes better than Cameron’s Chase Foreman. Logan Burns and Wyatt Bird tied for sixth with rounds of 82. Gabe Cole tied for ninth with an 83. Haden Bradford also shot 96 for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs ran their meet record to 7-0 on Tuesday with a Daviess County Country Club victory over Mid-Buchanan and Albany. Gallatin’s team score of 152 easily bested both the Dragons (180) and Warriors (222).
Simmons and Bird finished back to back in the medalist race with respective rounds of 35 and 36. Burns shot 40, Cole carded a 41 and Bradford shot 44.
Gallatin’s junior varsity improved to 6-1 with a 203 to 240 win over Mid-Buchanan. Colin Beck led the way with a 42, followed by Owen Schweizer 50, Jarod Rains 55, Tayton Terry 56 and Jaryd Brogan 58.
Next Tuesday’s Grand River Conference Tournament will be held at Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe. The Bulldogs are the defending champions.
