Two Old Women: an Alaska legend of betrayal, courage and survival by Velma Wallis

Adult Nonfiction

This book in five words or less: A must read

This is a Athabascan Indian legend told for many generations about two old women who were left behind in hard times because they were considered weak by the rest of their clan. The tale of their courage and survival is truly inspiring. It is a quick read, but the themes of this powerful tale will stay with you much longer.

Kingdom Come by Jane Jensen

Adult Fiction

This book in five words or less: Murder, rural Amish community

This mystery takes place in a tight knit rural Amish community in Pennsylvania. The book is told from the perspective of Elizabeth Harris, the investigating detective and an “English,” who is assigned to a case involving the death of a young girl.  This is a new series, set in Pennsylvania’s Amish country. It was an enjoyable read with a twist at the end that I did not see coming.
