Shawn Pawson, son of Robin and Kevin Pawson of Brea, Calif., enlisted in the Marines on Aug. 8, 2016, at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif. He graduated from basic training on Nov. 4, 2016. He received further training in Infantry in November, 2016, at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is currently an acting platoon leader and private first class. After recruit training, Marines in the engineering occupational field complete a specialty course dependent on their Military Operation Specialty. Shawn is taking the Combat Engineering course. He will graduate March 15, 2017. His mother, Robin (Powell) Pawson, is a Gallatin High School graduate. He is the grandson of Carol Hester of Gallatin.
