Gallatin FFA Chapter

During the year of 2016-2017 the Gallatin FFA Chapter has accomplished many goals, exceeding our expectations. This past week we celebrated National FFA Week. National FFA Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate Agriculture life. The Gallatin FFA chapter has 82 members. It has been a very productive year for the chapter, as well as many of its members.
The summer started off with the chapter participating in the Area II Sports Day in Bethany. The team placed fourth in the softball tournament. Overall members had a very fun time.
The Missouri State Fair is always a highlight for Gallatin FFA chapter. The chapter won the Field Crop Sweepstakes trophy. Seventeen members exhibited swine and cattle, and goats. There were many blue and purple ribbons taken home by our members. The school year started off with an Ice Cream Social for our incoming FFA members and their parents. We had ice cream and got to know the new freshman and their parents. FFA jackets and ties were purchased at this time. On September 21st, 12 sophomores attended an Area II Chapter Degree Ceremony in Chillicothe. This ceremony featured the State Vice President. Each member received their chapter degree pins at this time.
The Area II Greenhand initiation was in October. Our chapter gained 27 new members trough this event. Greenhands received their Greenhand pin and listened to State FFA President Colton Spencer.
Late October saw 12 Gallatin FFA members attend the National FFA Convention. During the time in Indianapolis the students attended three sessions as well as visited the National FFA Career Show and shopping mall. At the career show members learned different types of career options in the agricultural field. Members also went to a paintball course. Our Chapter had Jarod Rains as a member of the National FFA Band.
Our tradition with FCCLA is to have Barnwarming. Both organizations get together and they put together an evening for the members to come and square dance. Barnwarming King and Queen were Colin Beck and Hayley Michael. The evening activities also included donut eating, apple bobbing, and cider chugging. The FFA also served hot dogs and s’mores for snacks.
The greenhands also attended a Greenhand Motivational conference in the beginning of January in Trenton. The members got to hear the State FFA Officers speak about what FFA is.
The chapter has submitted 6 applications for the State FFA Degree as well as numerous proficiency entries.
After FFA week the chapter members will start preparing for our contest season. The members have already begun studying and will continue and try to make it another great year and to exceed our goals. Our year will finalize with our FFA banquet.
