Jane Ann Paul passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2017, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo., just six days short of her 97th birthday. She and her late husband, Bob, had been residents of Lee’s Summit, since Oct. 2000. They were a special couple who were true life partners in every endeavor—home and family, business, church, and civic activities. Jane Ann had many remarkable attributes; among those frequently mentioned by family and friends were being kind, caring, energetic, determined, and always putting others first. She was an inspiration and genuine role model to all who knew her.

Jane Ann was born to Floyd and Helen Tuggle on Feb. 14, 1920 in a farm house near Gallatin. She graduated from Gallatin High School, and then attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and later Iowa State University where she graduated with a major in Home Economics. While in college, she met her future husband and devoted partner of almost 70 years, Bob Paul, the Gallatin High School music teacher at the time. They were married in Gallatin on June 29, 1942.
Bob and Jane Ann began their family in 1944 with the birth of their son, Dick, followed by two daughters, Margaret and Janet. While the children were young, Jane Ann taught Home Economics and English on a part-time basis at nearby Jameson and Winston High Schools. A woman of strong faith, she was an active member of Gallatin’s First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Director of the Sunday School Junior Department, and church librarian. In the community, she faithfully served her P.E.O. chapter in almost every office, and later joined Bob in the family bank. She held multiple positions and was elected to the bank’s Board of Directors, where she served as Secretary.
After 54 years of dedicating their lives to the family business, Bob and Jane Ann sold the bank in 2000 and moved to Lee’s Summit, to be near Janet and her family. There, she and Bob continued their active lifestyle where Jane Ann participated in daily exercise classes, joined P.E.O. Chapter LS in Lee’s Summit, volunteered at the Hillcrest Thrift Store, and, along with Bob, became active in the Lee’s Summit First Baptist Church.
Jane Ann is survived by three children, Dick Paul and Joyce of Seattle, Margaret Lowe and Al of Seattle, and Janet Vaughn and Jerry of Lee’s Summit; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Minturn, of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 13, at the First Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit, followed by burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallatin on February 14. The family requests that donations be made in memory of Jane Ann to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, or Hillcrest Transitional Housing of Eastern Jackson County.
