Gallatin varsity wrestlers last Thursday became just the second Bulldog wrestling squad in school history to finish a season unbeaten in dual competition.

Senior Michael McLey squared off against GRC rival Elory Anderson from Stanberry. Anderson won a 4-2 decision.

Gallatin knocked off Stanberry, 53-12, and downed St. Joseph Lafayette, 72-0, to complete a season-long sweep of 23 dual competitions against opponents from both Class 1 and Class 2. The Bulldogs of 2001-02 also finished without a blemish on their dual record.

The Bulldogs travel to Richmond this weekend for the Class 1, District 3 Tournament. Including Gallatin, five of the top ten Class 1 teams ranked by missouriwrestling.com will be competing in the Richmond tournament. Gallatin, as of Feb. 1, is ranked #8, just ahead of #9 Lexington. Host Richmond is the #5 ranked team. Centralia is #4 and Marceline is #3. Seneca is currently the top-ranked Class 1 team, followed by Whitfield.

Senior Caleb Michael pinned Lafayette’s Corey Wallace in action last Thursday at Stanberry.

The Bulldogs take some impressive individual records into Saturday’s district. Freshman Ross Critten is the #1 ranked wrestler at 106 pounds with a record of 38-2. Senior Wyatt Bird is ranked #6 at 145 pounds with a 35-6 record. Sophomore Graydee Rains, 40-3, is the #3 wrestler at 195 pounds.

Other 30-win Bulldogs are freshman Drayton Harris, 35-8 at 132 pounds; junior Caleb Boyd, 33-5 at 138 pounds; and senior Michael McLey, 32-10 at 285 pounds.
