Billie Rae Diem, loving Husband, Daddy and Grandpa, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 30, 2017 at his home in Springfield, Mo. Bill was born on Jan. 7, 1940 to Lou Ethel (Raines) & Wallace Whitney Diem, was the youngest of 3 children and grew up in Hamilton. Bill was preceded in death by his Father; Mother; and eldest Sister, Violet Vinita Fagley of Hamilton.
Survivors include his Wife of nearly 49 years, Helen Ruth (Ramsbottom) Diem; four Daughters and their Families, Bobbi Jo and Hamid Zlitni (Sons – Ahmed, Jamal & Zak) of Parkville, Bonni Jo and Thomas Drury (Daughters – Helen Lea, Robin and Billie Rae) of Springfield, Betti Jo Diem of Kansas City, Mo.; and Becci Jo and James Kelbaugh (Sons – Austin, Tommy Lee Diem and Victor) of Kimberling City, Mo.; and his Sister Verla Vivian Eklund of Clinton, Mo.
Bill was a great Daddy and an amazing Grandpa to his 9 Grandkids. He graduated from JC Penney High in Hamilton, and earned a bachelor degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He loved to stay active and held many different titles: preacher, teacher, police officer, city councilman, restaurant owner, auctioneer and many, many more – some would say it was easier to list the things he had not done. Bill retired from the United States Post Office after 30 plus years. He loved attending auctions/sales and was passionate about his collection of books and working in his garden.
Bill had the HB Trading Post on the square in Gallatin; the thrift shop in the old Baptist Church; was a bus driver for the school; a dog catcher for the city; and a true jack of all trades.
His priorities were God, Family, Others and then Himself. He was an excellent example of a Godly man and will be greatly missed. His wish was to be cremated; there will be a Celebration of Life service at the Springfield Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ at 5925 S Woodcliffe Dr, Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to the Billie Diem Memorial Fund (c/o Great Southern Bank, 14309 State Hwy 13, Reeds Spring, MO 65737).
