On Jan. 6, 2017, 35 years will have passed since the Bergman murders took place at a rural home north of Gallatin.
On Jan. 6, 1982, Hal Page shot and killed Mary Bergman, 41, and wounded two of her children, Carl, 12, and Kevin, 16. He also killed a local electrician who happened to be working there at the time, Ed Ramsbottom. Page finally turned the gun on himself.
Of Tom and Mary Bergman’s nine children, only one was not home that day. Mark was close by, in Gallatin. The father of the family, Tom Bergman — who reason would suggest was the primary target of the killing spree — was much further away. He was at a job in Costa Rica.
Mark Bergman began writing a book about his family’s tragedy called “Gold, Greed and Murder.” He has since decided he wasn’t meant to be a writer and has turned to Bill Maddox, an actor and screenwriter, to write a screenplay, which he hopes will be turned into a movie.
Mr. Maddox has ghost written novels and scripts and acted in various shows, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Mr. Bergman and Mr. Maddox will collaborate on the screenplay for the movie using notes and the outline from Mr. Berman’s incomplete book.
The two will be at the Corner Café in Gallatin at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 18) if you would like to visit with them.
