Daviess County Farm Bureau was recognized at Missouri Farm Bureau’s 92nd annual meeting for outstanding program achievements. Daviess County Farm Bureau President Keith Sutton accepted the award for the county. The county achieved 2006 membership quota of over 366 members this year and four gold stars for excellence in several programs.
Leaders of the National High School Rodeo Association, the oldest youth rodeo organization in America, appointed Colter Hill of Jamesport to the Wrangler High School All-Star Rodeo Team.

Two Cameron youths were arrested Tuesday on a five-county felony warrant for burglary and property damage at Winston School. Several computers were damaged or taken, and miscellaneous property damage occurred over most of the school. Total estimate of loss was $15,000.
Work on the Magill Bridge is at a standstill until warmer weather sets in. Contractors drove all the base pilings for the south approach earlier this week. The bridge will be 468 feet long and 26 feet wide.
The small town of Gilman City, population 393, saw a historical first on Dec. 3, when Mayor Rhonda Miles swore in a new police officer, Theodore John Shady, Jr. This the first time the city has had a police department.

Vince Rogers, a 1984 graduate of Gallatin High School, star runningback of a championship football team, is one of the youngest of 75 students now at Conception Seminary College. Vince has two years of study yet to complete, followed by four to five years of study in theology before ordination.
Marcia Kelly was awarded the “Employee of the Year Award” at Highland Nursing Home for 1986.

First there was a record-setting low temperature of 14 below zero, followed by a six-inch snow. That was enough to convince Daviess Countians that an old-fashioned winter was at hand.
According to Connie Bashford, City Light and Water Superintendent, Gallatin’s water supply is dwindling. Of its five wells, four are still usable but the other has practically nothing in it. Not yet at the critical stage, the problem is serious, Bashford said.

A fire at the Richards Boarding home in north Gallatin (the old Thompson residence) about noon Tuesday caused several thousand dollars damage, but none of the 14 residents of the home were harmed. The fire apparently started in an electrical box on a second floor wall and quickly spread to the attic.
Northwest Missouri will become the target of almost daily sonic booms during the next three months as the Strategic Air Command conducts practice bombing runs over the area. The Gallatin, Pattonsburg and Lock Springs areas will be under the direct route of the supersonic B-58 Hustler bomber.

Fire Chief Eddie Elbert reported that the “fire phones” rang two times yesterday. He requested that residents not dial 2113 unless they actually have a fire to report. The switchover to dial telephone was made on schedule here Saturday night without undue difficulty.
Gallatin’s parking meters went into operation yesterday as scheduled despite vandalism to 43 which rendered them inoperative. The highway patrol is now working on the case. In most instances, a pair of pliers or similar object was used to break the small handle and shaft which is used to register the amount of time on a meter.

The Wallace-McAfee post of the American Legion has taken the initiative in a move to increase the municipal tax sufficiently to provide necessary funds for the improvement and maintenance of Dockery Park in Gallatin so that the city’s scenic and valuable park site can be converted into a municipal park that will do credit to the community.
Caldwell County women chosen as petit jurors for circuit court apparently don’t want to serve. The Advocate-Hamiltonian reports that all eight women selected for the new term of court have refused to serve, which is their right under the new constitution.
The Hotel Elbert coffee shop and dining room has been leased by George Farnsworth of North Kansas City, Eddie Elbert, hotel proprietor, said today.
