Collector’s Office
Reminder: The Daviess County collector’s office will be open to receive tax payments through Friday, Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m. If you are mailing your tax payment, it must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31, 2016, in order to avoid penalty.
Holiday Hours
The courthouse will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 23 and will also be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
The courthouse will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, in observance of the New Year holiday.
County Commission
The road and bridge crew worked on a bridge off of State Highway CC on Quick Avenue in Liberty Township. This week crews worked on a corrugated metal pipe in Sheridan Township. Crews are also still completing maintenance work on equipment.
Wayne Scott and Misty Scott, Jamesport Community Association, asked for $600 for Great Northwest Days for the cost of a booth. There was discussion on the Neighborhood Assistance Program grant that Jamesport Community Association has been awarded. David Cox moved to pay for the booth for Great Northwest Days. Carl Carder seconded. Motion carried.
David Cox entered into the meeting at 8:30 a.m.
Chasity Anderson and Rod Cotton from Farmers’ Electric Cooperative discussed issues and information related to the community and the cooperatives.
Commissioners signed grant agreement for 2016-LLEBG-016 for 16.738 CFDA for Interoperability Communications Upgrade.
David Roll discussed the details of the 2017 Emergency Management Performance Grant.
Commissioners attended the Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting at noon.
Commissioners reviewed roads, bridges and brush in Liberty Township and viewed Lake Viking properties.
Commissioners will be attending the Northwest Commissioners meeting in Carrollton on Thursday, Dec. 22.
These are the unapproved minutes of Dec. 14, 2016. Randy Sims, presiding commissioner, called the meeting to order. David Cox, first district commissioner, and Carl Carder, second district commissioner, were present. Minutes were approved and bills authorized.
Circuit Court
The following cases were heard by Judge Thomas Chapman on Dec. 14:
A jury trial was set for Emmett Campbell, Jamesport, on June 1-2, 2017. He is charged with rape/attempted rape first degree.
Ryan Ford plead guilty to one count of forgery in a change of venue from Clinton County and was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections, execution of sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve five years probation and 10 days shock time, and was fined $500. On four Daviess County charges of forgery, Ford received a suspended imposition of sentence, five years probation, 10 days shock jail time, and 50 hours of community service. Ford had altered his state license card to make it fraudulently appear that he was an Emergency Medical Technician paramedic.
Peter A. Spagnotti previously plead guilty on Oct. 12 to two C felony counts of receiving stolen property. Two counts were dismissed. He received a suspended imposition of sentence and five years probation.
A jury trial was set for Sean Osborn for April 25-26, on a B felony count of elder abuse.
Brian J. Ettlemen had previously plead guilty on Oct. 12 to the D felony of DWI. He was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections, execution of sentence suspended, five years probation and 30 days shock time. He was fined $300 for misdemeanor driving while revoked.
Bridgette L. Callaway plead guilty to C felony tampering with motor vehicle. A sentence assessment report was ordered.
Patricia A. Evans plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault, amended from felony. She received a suspended imposition of sentence and two years probation.
A jury trial was set for Christopher I. Crosthwait on April 20, 2017, on a C felony charge of tampering with motor vehicle.
Jacob D. Calton plead guilty Oct. 12 to DWI, D felony and was sentenced to four years in the Department of Corrections, execution of sentence suspended, five years probation, and 70 days shock jail time. He was fined $50 for failure to signal and $50 for displaying plates of another.
William S. Perkins plead guilty to no valid license, D felony, and was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections.
Howard P. Andrus plead guilty to possession of controlled substance, C felony, and was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections. On a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge, he received credit for time served.
A jury trial was set for May 4, 2017, for Blake J. Goddard on two D felony counts of damaging jail property.
Probation was revoked for James D. Whitt on a suspended imposition of sentence for burglary, and he was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections.
Probation was revoked for David D. Olszowka for possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, and his 10-year sentence was ordered executed.
Timothy Johnson plead guilty to assault, C felony, and a sentence assessment report was ordered.
Civil cases filed: Alex Parkhurst, Cameron, vs. Gavin Ebert, Cameron, personal injury, change of venue from Clinton County.
Associate Division
Voreecesa D. Pierro, Kansas City, was charged Dec. 15 with driving while suspended, class D felony, misdemeanors of speeding, failure to register and failure to maintain financial responsibility, and a seat belt infraction.
Defendants found guilty in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County are listed below with the offense and fine assessed. Additionally, court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $68.50 for moving traffic violations and $116.50 in most criminal cases. Judge Daren L. Adkins presided over the following cases:
Kevin George, Nev., no valid license, $150.
Hiep D. Do, Appleton, Wis., no valid license, $150; speeding, $155.50.
Adrian D. Gutshall, Jamesport, driving while intoxicated, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation, 30 hours community service.
Trevor W. Hunter, Coffey, nonsupport – 3 counts, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation.
Jose C. Carrasco-Baylon, Kansas City, Kan., no valid license, $300; speeding, two days jail, $250.
Christen M. Kennard, Nowata, Okla., speeding, $30.50; driving while revoked amended to no valid license, $150.
Randall G. Elder, Gilman City, driving while intoxicated – prior offender, 10 days jail, board bill paid by defendant.
Zakeius Lee-Sanquin Clerk, Weatherford, Okla., possession of marijuana amended to non-operating, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation, 30 hours community service; possession of drug paraphernalia, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation; speeding, $155.50.
Benisha C. Johnson, Dallas, Tex., possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, suspended imposition of sentence, two years probation, and 30 hours community service on each count.
David L. Nacke, Willis, Tex., driving while intoxicated, 10 days jail; careless and imprudent driving, $80.50.
David A. Zamora, Jameson, no valid license, 4 days jail.
