Daviess County 4-H members Kelly Critten, Kyle Croy, RaeAnn Eckert, Nina May, Kelsey McLaughlin, Taylor Porter, Erin Sweatman and Wren Tolen all received the American Youth Foundation’s National Leadership Award in recognition of personal integrity, balanced living and potential for leadership.

Gallatin’s boys defeated South Harrison, 48-42, to win their fourth straight Gallatin Invitational title on Saturday. The boys championship total was the lowest combined score since 2002 and lowest winning total since Gilman City posted a championship total of 44 points in 1995.

Gallatin High School seniors Nic Burrell, Andrew Adkison and junior Stephen Wood have been named to the Class 1 All-State Football Team.

Dec. 4, 1996

Tina Johnston was recently promoted to executive assistant to President and CEO Mike Reagan of the Greater Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Federation. Tina is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Johnston of Gallatin.

Named king and queen of the Gallatin FFA and FHA Barnwarming were Josh Fitzmaurice and Macon Swofford.

Holly Garnett, daughter of Tom and Nancy Garnett, was selected as the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation ambassador from Gallatin High School.

Dec. 3, 1986

Well over 100 people paused last Wednesday at a reception to mark the retirement of Elizabeth O’Dell as director of the Gallatin Senior Center. Mrs. O’Dell is the first and only director the center has had since it started in 1974.

SRA Randy Woody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burr Woody of Gallatin, left for a one-year tour of duty at Keflavik, Iceland, on Nov. 24. He is a 1983 graduate of Gallatin R-5 High School.

Mandy Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johnson of Gallatin, has been selected as one of Missouri’s ten finalists in the Century III Leadership Scholarship program. Over 100 students across Missouri competed in this year’s Century III program.

Dec. 8, 1976

Beginning at 9:27 p.m. Sunday night, 2,956 members of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative experienced flickering lights and a short power outage. Members affected were in Livingston, Caldwell, Daviess and eastern DeKalb counties. Power was restored after a set of insulators, which had been damaged by gunfire, were replaced on a transmission line.

Seventy-nine people attended the annual Gallatin Motor Company Christmas party, hosted by Steve and Judy Tate at the McDonald Tea Room.

Dec. 8, 1966

Mrs. Madge Rash of Gallatin, long time doll-making hobbyist, made over 20 dolls for the Christian Church bazaar. The dolls are about the classiest “rag dolls” made. Mrs. Rash, the mother of Mrs. Leonard Reynolds, also make all the doll clothes.

Over 150 persons, 60 years of age and older, gathered at the Legion Hall in Gallatin Tuesday noon for the annual Christmas Party of the Young At Heart Club. Robert Thompson is president of the club this year.

Dec. 6, 1956

Information indicates that Gallatin’s army reserve unit, Battery B, 381st Field Artillery Battalion, is high on the priority list to receive an Army Reserve Training Center.

A trailer court has sprung up in south Gallatin in recent weeks where none existed before. The court, operated by Burl Hisle, now has five mobile homes, which is about the capacity of the space.

Dec. 5, 1946

Forrest Barlow, owner of the Barlow service station on highway 6 in north Gallatin, was robbed of $329 in currency Thanksgiving night by two well-dressed men who brandished revolvers during the holdup.

Mrs. Evelyn Armes, the former Evelyn Carter of Gallatin, is now a leading hairdresser in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios in Hollywood. She has designed and arranged coiffures for such stars as Jeanette McDonald, Jane Powell, Eleanor Donohue and the English actress Ann Todd.

Gallatin is prominently represented in the state Future Farmers of American association by Jack Everly, a vice-president in the official organization.
