The opening round of the 40th Annual Gallatin Invitational Tournament held no surprises or shocks for the event’s top seeded teams. None of the eight first round contests ended with less than a double digit scoring difference between winner and loser.
Trenton’s top-seeded girls and Gallatin’s second-seeded Lady Bulldogs each advanced easily to Thursday’s semifinal round. Trenton blasted Polo, 52-24, on Tuesday, while Gallatin took a similar road to the semis with a 70-24 victory over Maysville.
Hardin-Central, the #3 girls seed, took care of Winston, 43-21. Braymer, the fourth seed, downed Gilman City’s girls, 75-29.
The top-seeded Winston boys handled HDC Conference foe Gilman City, 72-26, and #2 Trenton took down Polo, 56-35. Braymer’s #3 boys defeated former Central River Conference rival Hardin-Central, 64-49. Gallatin’s fourth-seeded boys prevailed over Maysville, 49-39.
Gallatin’s girls featured 11 different scorers and forced 29 turnovers in their runaway win Tuesday night. Karley Salmon led the way with 16 points and also dished out seven assists. Courtney Shubert tallied 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs and pulled down seven rebounds. Taylor Sloan tacked on 10 points and seven rebounds for the winners. Sami Boyd scored only two points but led the team with eight assists.

Gallatin’s girls will face #3 Hardin-Central Thursday at 4:30 for the right to compete for the girls’ championship.
Gallatin’s boys trailed Maysville, 7-3, in the early going, but the Bulldogs took a 16-0 run into the second quarter Tuesday night that set them on the road to a victory. Jett Simmons and Chad Walker shared scoring honors for the Bulldogs with 11 points each. Simmons also dished out a team-high seven assists.
Dylan Burns also broke double figures for Gallatin with 10 points to go along with six rebounds. Gabe Cole also tallied seven points and seven boards.
The Bulldogs face the top-seeded Winston Redbirds at 5:45 on Thursday. Winston, behind Jacob Lewis’s game-high 30 points, is looking for its second GIT title in as many years.
Thursday’s late semifinal games pit #1 Trenton girls against #4 Braymer at 7:00 and #2 Trenton boys against #3 Braymer at 8:15.
Friday night’s slate features consolation and seventh place games. Saturday’s third place games begin at noon and the day wraps up with the boys’ championship beginning at 4:30.
