Allison Spidle began her duties as director of the Daviess County Library on Oct. 1.
Allison was born and raised in Gallatin and graduated from Gallatin High School in 2000.
She worked for the Department of State for three years as a foreign service diplomat in Pristina, Kosova.
It was there Allison met her husband, Nenad Dobric. He was the principal body guard for the vice-president of Kosovo.
“It was not the life for being married and raising a family,” said Allison. “We began looking at options for where to settle down. For me, there was really only one.”
She and her husband Nenad returned to Gallatin. Nenad now works as a welder at Landmark.
Politically, the change from Kosovo to rural Missouri is as different as night and day. But culturally it is not all that different. Nenad grew up in a rural area. Kosovo has much in common with the Midwest. In fact Kosovo is the only country in the world to have a consulate in Iowa.
The couple has one little girl, Milena, 18 months, and another child due in February. Allison is the daughter of Ron and Kim Spidle of Lake Viking. Her sister Mandi is a speech pathologist at Gallatin R-5 and her other sister Gwen is a social worker in Kansas City.
Allison doesn’t see any major changes taking place at the Daviess County Library. She intends to continue running the library with a focus on customer service and providing as many resources as possible to patrons.
“The library has an awesome staff which knows the patrons and reaches out to new people,” Allison said. “We are always open to ideas and suggestions for how to better serve our patrons.”
She reminds the public that the library is much more than books. There are public access computers, a wealth of online books and movies that can be accessed from your home or electronic device, genealogy resources, and an adult quiet space for quiet work or reading. The library also has wi-fi. If you own property or live in Daviess County you can get a library card for free.
“I’m happy to be here,” Allison said. “And I’m grateful that I was chosen for the position. I’m proud to be part of this wonderful staff.”
