Two people, including a small child, received moderate injuries in an accident that happened on Hwy. 6 at about 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, in Grundy County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred as K. Leigh Stith, 23, Gladstone, was westbound on Hwy. 6 and Levi Hershberger, 18, Gilman City, was eastbound. About four miles west of Trenton, Ms. Stith reportedly reached in the back seat to obtain an item and failed to observe slowing traffic ahead. She applied her brakes and steered to the left. Her vehicle, a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix, crossed the center line and struck Mr. Hershberger’s vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Ram.
Ms. Stith’s car came to rest in the center of the roadway with extensive damage. Mr. Hershberger’s truck traveled off the south side of the roadway and came to rest, facing north, with extensive damage.
Ms. Sith and a passenger in her vehicle, Karson Kilson, 4, Gladstone, were both taken by Grundy County EMS to Wright Memorial at Trenton. Both had moderate injuries and were wearing safety devices.
The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.C. Gilliland, assisted by Cpl. J.A. Pithan, Tpr. B.N. Raney, Tpr. A.D. Martin, Trenton Fire Department and Grundy County EMS.
