Red Ribbon Week activities will be held at Winston R-6 from Oct. 24-31. The theme is YOLO…You Only Live Once!
Dress up days: Monday, Oct. 24 – Don’t Give Up Your Dreams: Pajama Day; Tuesday, Oct. 25 – Drugs Are Trouble, Don’t Make It Double: Twin Day; Wednesday, Oct. 26 – Don’t Let Drugs Play You: Movie Character Day; Thursday, Oct. 27 – Too Smart For Drugs: Nerds vs. Jocks Day; Monday, Oct. 31- Mysterious Monday: Halloween Costumes.
Hats are permitted on all dress up days as long as they clearly fit with the theme for the day and you are dressed up. Not just a hat.
Door decorating contest: High school students will decorate their class sponsor’s door. Seventh Grade – Mrs. Warford; 8th Grade – Mrs. Codding; 9th Grade – Ms. Littrell; 10th Grade – Ms. Gardner; 11th Grade – Miss Wilmes; 12th Grade – Miss Yohn. Decorating for doors may begin on Monday, and doors will be judged Thursday during eighth hour.
One elementary class and one high school class will win a pizza party on Monday.
Other Activities: Monday morning, Oct. 24, there will be a short (10 minute) K-12 assembly in the gym before students go to class to kick-off the week; each student will receive their Red Ribbon Week bracelet. Each morning, students who are wearing their bracelet will receive a treat. Students who participate in dressing up every day will be entered into a drawing. Monday afternoon (31st) one elementary and one junior high/high school student will win a $50 gift card.
Monday, Oct. 31, is Halloween Day with costumes, costume parade and wrap-up assembly. Students will be allowed to come to school dressed in their Halloween costumes. Students may bring masks to wear as long as it is part of their costume. They will be allowed to wear their mask only during the parade. Absolutely no weapons, toys, or face paint will be allowed.
The costume parade is from 2-2:15. Students will parade around the gym in their costume for parents and community members. After the parade, elementary students will be dismissed to their classroom for classroom parties.
The Wrap-Up Assembly is from 2:45-3, for the gift card drawing and recognition of best dressed students for each dress up day.
