Administrator Ed Howard informed the Daviess-DeKalb Region Jail Board that he and Randy Sims, Daviess County Presiding Commissioner, had converted the jail’s Certificate of Deposit (CD) from one year to five years, increasing the interest earnings from .5% to 1.7%. This should represent about $300 a month in additional earnings. Mr. Howard discussed opening another CD at the end of the year for a possible building fund.
In other business at the Sept. 30 meeting, Sheriff Andy Clark was welcomed as a new member of the board. The former sheriff of DeKalb County, Wes Raines, resigned to take a position at the federal courthouse in Kansas City. Sheriff Clark will act as interim sheriff at DeKalb until the elections decide the race this November. Sheriff Clark is running against Shannon Cox, a write-in candidate.
Mr. Dowell gave the financial report which was accepted by the board. Sales tax revenue for August was $122,405.46; Commissary grossed $10,153.82 in September; CD Account balance is $237,688.93; Sales Tax Account balance was $722,862.70; Operating Account balance was $17,977.17; Accounts Receivable was $92,315.84; Accounts Payable was $9,521.55; Payroll Account balance was $9,781.96.
Mr. Dowell reported that all but one staff member has completed training. New training is being added.
A 2009 E450 diesel, wheelchair accessible van was purchased for $2,878.85.
The 2017 budget proposal was tabled until next board meeting.
The board entered closed session.
Next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 21.
