High Speed Chases
In regards to the article in the September 14th North Missourian paper about a high speed chase that entered Hwy CC in Daviess County going north bound reaching speeds of 100 mph. The chase continued west on Hwy 6 at Altamont, then turned southbound at J Hwy, thru the town of Kidder and crossing Hwy 36. The vehicle was stopped at Old 36 Hwy.
We live in that area and we travel that area. We are confronted by distracted drivers, livestock, Amish buggies and slow moving farm machinery. Those roads at best are barely 50 mph roads. In our opinion, there is no reason to be chasing anyone down those roads at those speeds. There is no reason to endanger innocent people in high speed chases. It is never the guilty party that is being chased that ends up hurt. We have seen many news programs where innocent people have been injured or killed.
All Police Depts., Sheriffs and Highway Patrol need to think about the innocent lives that are in jeopardy because of these chases. The only reason these criminals are going at these speeds is because the law enforcement is chasing them. Surely they can be caught in another manner.
Respectfully,
Gary Mielke, Kidder, Mo.
