Winston R-6 recently received an A/A+ rating from Standard and Poor’s Global, which provides worldwide financial information and analytics. LJ Hart, president of LJ Hart Company, which provides Winston with financial advice, said the school district could not have hoped for a higher rating. He added that the rating letter should help the district finance Lease Certificates of Participation at a premium interest rate.

The Winston R-6 Board of Education was presented information on the Lease Certificates of Participation from LJ Hart Representative Bruce Johnson during its meeting on Monday, Sept. 19.
The Lease Certificates of Participation will provide funds for the site development, construction, equipping and furnishings of additional elementary and high school classrooms. Funding for this project was approved in April 2016 by Winston School District voters. Lease Certificates of Participation will be available to local individuals and institutional investors.
In other business, the board approved Extra Duty Assignments: Abigail Yohn and Zach. Keller, Senior Class Sponsors; Vickie France, Elementary Student Counsel Sponsor; Penny Gardner, Varsity Track; Steve Lasman, Junior High Track.
Policy updates were tabled until the October school board meeting.
Katie Martin, Winston Agricultural Education Instructor, gave a presentation to the school board about the summer agricultural education and FFA programs, highlighting multiple student achievements at fairs and summer conferences.
Superintendent’s Report: Smithfield Foods Hog Production Division has donated 100 cases of bottled water to the school.
The tax rate approved in August by the Winston School Board has been certified by the Missouri Secretary of State.
High School Principal’s Report: Football Coop with Maysville is going well with eight varsity boys and two junior high boys out for football.
The numbers for Cross-Country teams has increased with five Varsity Boys, four Junior High Girls, and four Junior High boys running.
Elementary Principal’s Report: Backpack Buddies has pledges to support 26 students this year. First delivery was made this week and will be sent home on Friday.
Grandparents Day was Sept. 9.
“FALL”ing Into Routine Parents Night was held on Sept. 22. Teacher met with parents to discuss various classroom procedures, activities, etc. and answer questions.
