Jonathan Arnold, Abby Ray and Terrill Wood have been selected to perform in the All-District Choir concert to be held Oct. 28 at Platte County High School.

The Gallatin Bulldogs steam-rolled Hamilton, 46-6, to keep pace with South Harrison and Princeton in the race for supremacy in the Grand River Conference. Derrick Love rushed for three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Quarterback Nic Burrell threw TD passes to Andrew Adksion and Ethan Merrigan, and rushed for another score. Stephen Wood also scored twice for Gallatin.

Sept. 26, 1996

An explosion caused by an uncapped propane gas line seriously injured a family of three in a rural home located 3.5 miles northeast of Jameson on Monday.

The Sunday, Sept. 29, morning worship service of the Gallatin First Christian Church will be a dedication service of the new Fellowship Hall.

Craig “Kid Fire” Cummings will fight for the World Boxing Council of America super-welterweight title next Monday at the Argosy Casino. Cummings owns a 30-2 record with 25 knockouts.

Oct. 1, 1986

Nearly 200 persons crowded into Gallatin’s Masonic building during the afternoon Sunday to pay tribute to Dr. E. E. Nixon during a rare retirement salute from the Gallatin community.

Lightning caused the postponement of Gallatin’s home opener last Friday night. Princeton’s Tigers held a slim 8-7 lead when a bolt of lightning after a 41-yard pass from Gallatin’s Chris Evans to Jason Helton prompted referees to call the game.

Sept. 30, 1976

Jimmy Carter, Democratic candidate for President, will address a Litton memorial dinner Friday, Oct. 15, at the Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City.

New teachers in the Gallatin R-5 school system are Alan Marshall, Ames Crosby, Gary Love, Patty Dickinson, Judith Matteson, Theresa Ford, Julia Divine, Suzanne Love, Cynthia O’Brien, Katherine Watring, Patricia Day, Beverly Ward and Cynthia Cockrell.

Sept. 29, 1966

Miss Karen Burge Nickell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nickell of Jamesport, sailed Sept. 15 for Paris where she will spend two weeks orientation before attending the University of Nancy on a Fullbright Scholarship.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the Courter Theatre, “Chamber of Horrors,” a film with many scenes so terrifying a built-in audio-visual warning system has been devised.

Sept. 27, 1956

Navy Lt. William H. Somerville graduated first in his class from the Navy’s Combat Information Center Officer’s School at the Naval Station, Glenview, Ill. Lt. Somerville is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John r. Somerville of Jameson.

Dr. Melvin Kelly, who once served as a Gallatin newspaper boy, is now president of Bell Telephone Laboratories. It was 20 years ago that Kelly was appointed director of research for Bell and initiated a research program that provided the technology for the 2,000-mile deep sea section of the Newfoundland-to-Scotland Trans-Atlantic cable.

Sept. 26, 1946

Polio, virtually epidemic in other sections of the country, has struck its first blow at Daviess County by claiming two young girls of the Jamesport community.

The nation’s bobby soxers are endangering civilization because of their “unreasonable” eating habits. They are injuring themselves as well as the children they will bear by skipping meals to lose weight and then sipping ice cream sodas all afternoon. This statement comes from no less authority than Dr. Icie Macy Hoobler, nationally know Detroit chemist and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Macy of Gallatin.
