The council of the City of Coffey just wanted to take a few moments to give a good pat on the back for our city.  In the last few years the City of Coffey has received a State of Missouri audit and just last year had another audit prepared by a CPA and both gave the city good ratings and anything mentioned in the audit the city had already started correcting if needed.

In August of this year, the city had a visit from a USDA specialist who reviewed our records and was very pleased to see everything in order and above and beyond in organization.

The city has been trying for quite a while now to bring the voting poll back to city hall in Coffey.

In March of 2016, the council presented a petition to the county clerk, which included 93 signatures of registered voters from Coffey, and Salem and Washington townships, and wrote a letter to the Daviess County Clerk regarding bringing the polling for voting back to Coffey City Hall.

The council has made many improvements and up-keep of the city hall building.  Some of the repairs and improvements included painting, fixing the floor, adding a new handicap accessible ramp, replacing and adding of lights, repairing the air conditioner, and repairing the roof and caulking windows.  The city had even made the building 60% to 75% more heat efficient.  The city cut out several electrical meters that had not been in service for 9 years but received no re-imbersement for any of them.

The county clerk visited for an inspection, however, she has not yet let the voting come back even though all the stipulations have been met.  There has yet to be letter of response from the visit in march 2016.

This last April, the city had to vote for our mayor and 2 council members.  The voting is very important and many don’t want to have to drive elsewhere to do so, which also includes Washington and Salem township residents.

We are very proud of how our city has kept up and the council has worked hard to do so.

Respectively,

Mary Lou Browning

City Clerk
