The 2016 high school football season is well underway, but Mother Nature apparently has her own ideas about Friday night football.
For the second week in a row, Friday turned into “Wash Day” for area teams. Unlike last week, though, Gallatin found itself on the wrong side of a shutout score when the storm blew in and forced postponement until Saturday afternoon.
Hamilton took a 14-0 advantage into Saturday and with just over two quarters left to play, tacked on five touchdowns to finish over Gallatin, 47-0, in non-conference play.
Bulldog offensive highlights were few. Gallatin’s biggest plays were improvised in the second quarter. Taking a snap from center, Wyatt Bird scrambled out of the pocket for a 27-yard gain into Hornet territory. GHS quarterback Cole McBee, also flushed from the pocket, scrambled forward for a first down to the PHS 34-yard mark.
A 29-yard pass grab by Caleb Boyd in front of two Hornet defenders spotted the ball at Hamilton’s five. Bird carried ahead for a gain to the three. A one-yard loss and quarterback sack brought on a 30-yard field goal attempt by sophomore Adrian Hernandez. His kick had plenty of distance but sailed just wide to the left of the upright.

Caleb Boyd’s catch and run to the five-yard line set up Gallatin’s best scoring opportunity but the Bulldogs came away empty from the possession.
The Bulldogs would not threaten again against a stout Hornet defense which eventually would surrender only 152 yards of offense to the underdog Bulldogs.
The biggest share of damage to the Bulldog defense came through the air. Senior quarterback Jaran Richman threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 22 yards per completion. Two TD strikes went to Derek Dixon and another to LaTroy Harper.
Richman, Brock Swindler and Nick Hartley each added a rushing touchdown for the Hornets.
Gallatin will seek its first Grand River Conference win of the season this Friday when the Bulldogs host the Maysville Wolverines. Maysville also came out on the losing end to Hamilton in the opening week. The Wolverines found tough going against Mid-Buchanan last Friday but came out on top, 12-7.
