Anita talks about her coworkers as if they are family, and actually, one of them is…her husband, Paul, and X-ray technician. They met working in the department and married in 2009. Together they have a daughter, Lily, 7, who joined their blended family of seven children.
Travel and the great outdoors appeal to the Vanderheydens. They enjoy any trip where they can hike, fish and reconnect with Mother Nature. Recently they returned from Rocky Mountain National Park and have future trips planned to Yellowstone National Park and the California Redwoods.
As a staff nurse, Anita’s focus is on technology as she inputs data and preregisters patients before they arrive for treatment. She embraces new technology and helped train staff during the conversion to SurgiNet at the hospital. She still keeps her stethoscope handy, providing patient care when other nurses are at lunch.
Anita always knew she wanted to be a nurse. “As a young girl, I told my family I wanted to be a people operator. I treat people like they were my mom or dad. I always try to be kind because you don’t know what is happening in their lives.”
