Penny Gardner, 30, Gallatin, will teach family and consumer science for grades 7-12. Ms. Gardner was born and raised in Breckenridge and graduated from its high school. She received a B.S. degree from Missouri Valley College in Marshall. She previously taught at Tri-County, Jamesport. She has two children, Tagen, 6, and Kayson, 3 months.
Crystal James, 35, Kearney, will teach special education for K-12. Ms. James was born and raised in Gladstone and graduated from North Kansas City High School. She received a B.A. in elementary education from William Jewell and a master’s degree in special education from Northwest Missouri State University. She previously taught at North Kansas City School District, Alternative Program. Her husband, Brad, is in insurance. They have two children, Taylor, 10, and Josiah, 8.
Tammy Dustman, rural Jamesport, will be teaching sixth grade. She was born and raised in Galt and graduated from Trenton High School. She graduated from Graceland University with a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in reading. Ms. Dustman previously taught at Grundy R-5 Elementary for four years and then North-Daviess R-3 for seven years. Her husband, Brent, works at ConAgra Food in the maintenance department. They have two children, Brooke 18, and Tori 9.
Cassie Pope, 31, Cameron, will teach second grade. Born in Smithville and raised in Cameron, Ms. Pope graduated from Cameron High School. She received a B.S. degree in elementary K-12 and a special education degree in K-12 from Missouri Western State University. She student taught at Maysville elementary second grade with Rachael Pulley. Ms. Pope worked as a waitress at Ma & Pa Kettle and Dino’s Diner since 2002 and as a part-time substitute teacher for Winston, Cameron and Maysville. She has two children, Marcas, 9, and Presley, 4.
Steve Lasman, Bethany, will teach science, social studies and health for grades 7-12. Born and raised in Miami, Fla., Mr. Lasman graduated from high school in Florida. He received his B.S. degree from Baker University. He previously taught in Mexico, Mo. His wife, Dale, teaches at South Harrison. They have two adult children, Liz and Lance.
