Jay Hart opened Grand River Heating and Cooling, LLC., about three months ago, and currently operates out of his home on East Berry Street in Gallatin. He specializes in home heating and cooling repair, along with maintenance service and installation.
Jay previously worked with a gas company and lately was the area supervisor for Telecom in Iowa.
He got tired of being on the road all the time, and realized there was a local need for a heating, ventilation and air conditioning business. He already had a wide range of skills in the area, so he returned to school to get certified.
He is now licensed as an HVAC and refrigeration technician. He passed all the exams and qualified for the Dean’s List. He is also licensed for business at Gallatin City hall and is EPA certified. In addition to heating and cooling, he offers water heater installation, plumbing repair, cleaning and tune-ups.
Jay has a Pittsburgh sheet metal machine available which makes a seam so he is able to install seamless square duct work. He has another machine ordered and coming soon to make the round duct work. He took classes through two electric companies, Ameren and Kansas City Power and Light, to be able to offer their rebate programs.
“Hand making the ductwork, the rebate programs, free estimates, it all helps to keep the cost down for customers,” he said. “Any money that can be saved, helps.”
By next spring he would like to have his business located in a building on the courthouse square. Jay has been doing taxidermy since he moved to Gallatin 13 years ago, and the store may be combined with a taxidermy shop. He mostly works taxidermy in the winter months.
“I can’t explain, but I’ve always loved doing stuff with my hands,” he said.
