Terry Implement of Gallatin will provide a tractor division sponsorship for the show.
“Brice Terry took time out of his busy morning to visit with us and immediately made the decision to come on board to help with our endeavor and the fight against hunger,” said Larry L. Griffey, CEO/Director.
Registration is open from 9-11 a.m. Judging is from 11:30 to 12:30. Awards will be presented around 1 p.m.
Proceeds from this event will cover operations and be placed into the Invest An Acre program, sponsored by Second Harvest/Feeding America, which is doubled dollar for dollar. As a partnering agency, the Cupboard is able to purchase items to distribute to community members in need, which includes those in Daviess County.
A study done by Second Harvest and Feeding America in 2014 shows one in five Americans, based off of 60,000 in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas, utilizes programs like Community Cupboard. This includes 17,000 children and 8,400 seniors.
“If it were not for local farmers providing much of the food that is purchased for the Cupboard, we could not do what we do,” said Mr. Griffey. “And, if it were not for businesses such as Terry Implement, farmers could not do what they do.”
Mr. Griffey added that the goal of fundraisers like the upcoming car show, is to keep sponsorship local, and also bring in business to those establishments while generating funding for the program.
Recently, the Community Cupboard served over 75 community members in the first 30 minutes of opening, and distributed over 2,500 pounds of food.
The US Census reports that Daviess County has about a 20% poverty level. Daviess County is just one county served by the Community Cupboard, and ranks third out of the five primary counties served.
“This is why the car show is so important to us as we do not take government funding,” said Mr. Griffey. “By not taking government funding, we are able to serve those who need assistance and are not confined to a certain demographic area. Terry Implement will help make this possible with their sponsorship.”
