Sherman Richard Phelps, 60, passed away August 8, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He was born Feb. 15, 1956 in Bloomington, Ill. to John L Phelps and Lois L. Scurlock.
Richard graduated in 1975 from Gallatin High School. He then started a career at Longwood Furnace and was a volunteer fire fighter for KAW Fire District. Richard went on to pursue a career as a meat processor at Armour Meats in St. Joseph, until 1983 when he started his life long career working as a Finisher in the Union for the Painters District Council #3 until he retired in 2010. When not working, you could find Richard with his friends and loved ones whipping up something good in the kitchen, putting up hay, or working (supervising) on a car in the shop. He was loved by so many. Richard never met a stranger and never made an enemy.
Richard was survived by his loving partner Brenda Davis; 4 children, Rachel Phleps of Kansas City, Mo., Julie Phelps of Lathrop, Stephanie Phelps of Gallatin, and Jordan Phelps of Gallatin; 3 Step-Children, Cristy Baker, Cindy Davis, and Robert Nick Davis; 10 siblings; 14 grandchildren; 1 unborn grandchild and many more family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 20th at the Spillman Event Center, 308 Broadway, Jamesport, Mo. at 2:00 p.m. Family will be supplying the meat, if anyone would like to bring a side dish or dessert we would greatly appreciate it. All family and friends are welcome. BYOB.
