KCP&L-Greater Missouri Operations Company (GMO) has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission to adjust the fuel and purchased power adjustment charge (FAC) on the monthly bills of its electric customers. KCP&L-GMO has made two filings. In its first filing (Case No. ER-2017-0001) KCP&L-GMO proposed to adjust the FAC to reflect changes in its fuel and purchased power adjustment costs, during the six month period ending May 31, 2016. The second case is the KCP&L-GMO true-up filing (ER-2017-0002). As a result of these two filings, the FAC would decrease by approximately $1.66 a month for the typical residential customer in the MPS service territory (Kansas City) and a decrease of approximately $1.65 a month for the typical residential customer in the L&P service territory (St. Joseph). The proposed change would take effect with the billing month of September 2016. The FAC allows the company to recover most – up to 95 percent – of its costs, but not all, to encourage conservation and prudence in fuel use by the company. Any charges resulting from the fuel adjustment clause must appear in a separate category on customers’ bills.
