The annual Daviess County Junior Livestock Show will be held on July 7, 8 and 9 at the fairgrounds located inside Dockery Park in Gallatin.
The show will open Thursday, July 7 with the Swine Show at 5 p.m. There will be a PeeWee Show immediately following the champion boar drive at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Katie Martin is this year’s livestock superintendent along with the daily emcee. Marcia Bird is in charge of concessions at the livestock show, and Alicia Chrisman is the fair board president.
The Invitational 4-H and FFA Livestock Show is open to all 4-H and FFA members living in any county in Missouri and enrolled in respective livestock projects, or belonging to 4-H Clubs or FFA Chapters. Points will be earned in conjunction with the invitational show to Daviess County only FFA and 4-H members.
This year’s schedule will be as follows:
Thursday, July 7: Swine in place, 4 p.m.; Swine Show, 5 p.m.; Pee Wee Show, 5:30 p.m. (approximate start time)
Friday, July 8: Sheep in place, 9 a.m.; Sheep Show, 10 a.m.; PeeWee Show (immediately following Lead Line) 10 a.m.; Goats in place, 12 noon; Goat Show, 1 p.m. (immediately following Sheep Show, time approximate); PeeWee Show (will be included, no set time).
Saturday, July 9: Rabbit Show 9:30 a.m.; Poultry & Water Fowl Show, 9:30 a.m.; Beef in place, 4 p.m.; Beef Show, 5 p.m.; Pee Wee Show, 5:30 p.m. (approximate start time); Pulled Pork BBQ, 5:30 p.m.
Last year 189 exhibitors showed 507 animals. There were 80 head of cattle, 98 head of sheep, 54 head of goats, 20 rabbits, 34 poultry and waterfowl and 221 head of swine.
Concessions will be open daily, serving grilled pork burgers, hamburgers, pulled pork and hotdogs. Biscuits and gravy will be served Friday morning along with homemade cinnamon rolls.
On Saturday, July 9 everyone is invited to enjoy a pulled pork barbeque starting at 5:30 p.m. until the pork runs out during the beef show. You will have a choice of barbecued pork sandwich, chips and a drink for $3.50 or you can enjoy a meal of barbecued pork, baked beans, homemade potato salad and a drink for $6. Admission to the livestock show is free.
